HistoryCompany owner Nigel (Nig) Bryant left school three days before he was due to sit school certificate (a move that didn't impress his mother) to work in forestry. He worked in a post yard and a mill before starting his first logging contract with Nelson Pine Forest in the mid 70s. He later gained experience in native logging and exotic species. Now a few decades down the track he works alongside son Kim, who has a forestry degree, and takes charge of the company's health and safety planning as well as general supervision. Based in the Waiti Valley near Wakefield, Nelson, Bryant Logging has forged an enviable reputation for reliability, service and generally getting the job done well.

PlantA key advantage of Bryant Logging is that the company has a huge range of plant and can mix and match the correct equipment to each job saving clients both time and money.
“Every forest is different – size of forest, size and type of trees, lay of the land etc. If it’s a large volume job we can put in a machine to automatically prepare the wood and cut it to length on site. For smaller jobs we can use a smaller machine enabling us to do both public and private sector work," says Kim. Just some of the plant the company operates includes delimbers, off highway trucks, excavators, grapple skidders, diggers, loaders and haulers. |
SafetyA key focus of the company is safety and Bryant Logging has an impressive record in this area with no long term injuries or deaths in many decades of operation. Bryant Logging operates a zero tolerance policy to drug use in the workplace. The company operates a stringent drug and alcohol testing system. Bryant Logging holds ACC tertiary accreditation and is Safetree certified contractors.
“We have good systems in place and all our staff are highly qualified," explains Kim. "We are audited regularly by Nelson Forest and also do our own private audits to identify any behavioural or machine issues that might need addressing or require further training for our staff." |
